…A book on the positivist human anatomy written by Vesalius. It was born out of the Renaissance movement of thought that sought to break away from the theological dogmatism of the Middle Ages and to look at nature and humans with new eyes. The full title is “De corporis humani fabrica libriseptem” (Seven Books on the Structure of the Human Body), and it is also called “Fabrica” for short. Published in 1543. This book, which Vesalius, a professor of anatomy and surgery at the University of Padua in Italy, wrote with the help of the painter JS Calcar (1499-1546 or 1550), unifies art and science and contains magnificent anatomical illustrations. It is a systematic anatomical book consisting of seven parts: (1) bones and joints, (2) muscles, (3) vascular system, (4) nerves, (5) abdominal organs, (6) heart and lungs, and (7) brain. It contains many findings that significantly correct the Galenic anatomy that had been believed and considered orthodox until then. … From Vesalius…He studied medicine at the University of Paris, but dropped out due to the war. He continued his studies at the University of Louvain and obtained his doctorate in medicine at the University of Padua. At the age of 32, he was appointed professor of anatomy and surgery at the same university. Through human dissections and animal experiments, he reconstructed the theories of Galen, which had been considered the gold standard until then, and established the system of modern systematic anatomy. He became acquainted with Jan Stephan van Calcar (c. 1499-after 1545), a pupil of Titian, a famous Venetian painter, and asked him to create anatomical diagrams. In 1543, he published De corporis humani fabrica libri septum (abbreviated Fabrica) by the Oporinus bookstore in Basel. … *Some of the terminology explanations that mention "Kalkar, JSvan" are listed below.
