The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) was founded on November 3, 1918, but did not win any seats in the Reichstag during the First Republic. After the war, it was rebuilt by Johann Koplenig and E. Fischer, who had fled to Moscow. The Soviet occupying forces supported the party, hoping that it would grow, but it only won a few seats in the early Reichstag after the war, and did not achieve the rapid growth seen in the Soviet-occupied Eastern European countries. Since 1959, the party has not sent any members to the Reichstag. ...
