...But the population continued to grow, reaching about 830,000 in 1939. In Munich, which was called the "capital of the movement" under the Nazi Third Reich, many workers and citizens were sent from the Gestapo headquarters, which was located in today's "Nazism Victims' Square," to the northwest of the city, to the concentration camp in Dachau. In 1938, when the Munich Conference was held between the leaders of Britain, Germany, France, and Italy, Jewish synagogues were burned and the Protestant St. Matthaus Church was demolished.
