Except for improvisational performances, everything starts with the script in a play and the musical score in an opera. Stage lighting designers study the script or musical score carefully and come up with a basic concept for lighting while holding multiple meetings with the director and set designer. They participate in rehearsals and take notes on the actors' movements and their range, while overlaying their lighting concept with the set design and cross-sectional plans, costume design, prop positions, music and effect points, etc., to concretely plan the emphasis of expression, brightness, light direction, color, and distribution of light and dark.
