...This is thought to be due to the Helvestre bodies, sensory cells in the feet of pheasants that are sensitive to vibrations. These cells enable the pheasant to sense earthquake vibrations that the human body cannot sense, and thus to know about an earthquake several seconds earlier than humans.

The Phasianidae family includes 165 species, ranging from small sparrow-sized birds to large peacock-like birds. They range in length from 12.5 to 200 cm.
