A former town in Ohara County, eastern Shimane Prefecture. The main settlement is on the right bank of the midstream Hii River, along the Kishi Line, and is the central town of Unnan (southern Izumo). It developed as the terminus of riverboats, and a paper market was once established here. The town produces rice, vegetables, beef, and more. At the southern end is Yumura Onsen (simple spring water, 43°C). In November 2004, it merged with Daito Town and Kamo Town in Ohara County, and Mitoya Town, Kakeya Town, and Yoshida Village in Iishi County to become a city, Unnan City. 64.07 km2 .
