Koshiji [town] - Koshiji

Japanese: 越路[町] - こしじ

A former town in Mishima District, central Niigata Prefecture. It is located in the southern part of the Echigo Plain, on the left bank of the Shinano River, with Raikoji Temple as its center, and is served by the Shinetsu Main Line. It is a producer of Echigo rice, where sake is produced, and is famous as the birthplace of Echigo Toji (master brewers). Badminton and tennis rackets are actively produced. In April 2005, it was incorporated into Nagaoka City along with Nakanoshima Town in Minamikanbara District, Mishima Town in Mishima District, Oguni Town in Kariwa District, and Yamakoshi Village in Koshi District. 58.44 ^km2 . Population 14,443 (2003).

新潟県中部，三島(さんとう)郡の旧町。越後平野の南部，信濃川の左岸にあり，中心は来迎寺(らいこうじ)で信越本線が通じる。越後米の産地で，清酒製造が行われ，越後杜氏(とうじ)の出身地として有名。バドミントン，テニスのラケットの生産が盛ん。2005年４月南蒲原郡中之島町，三島郡三島町，刈羽郡小国町，古志郡山古志村と長岡市へ編入。58.44km²。１万4443人（2003）。
