Year of death: June 10, 1925
Year of birth: Meiji 2.1.24 (1869.3.6)
A poet, critic, and essayist of the Meiji and Taisho eras. The third son of Omachi Dori. Born in Kochi. His real name was Yoshie. At the age of 12, he moved to Tokyo to rely on his uncle, but lost his father and his mother shortly thereafter. He studied under his older brother, who was 12 years older than him and had already moved to Tokyo, and in 1887 (Meiji 20), he entered the First Higher School and became familiar with literature. In 1891, he entered Imperial University. Together with Shioi Ue, he published beautiful prose and verse in Teikoku Bungaku, a magazine founded by Takeshima Hagoromo and others, and in 1894, the three published a collection of poems and prose called Hana Momiji (Flowers and Autumn Leaves). His style and themes imitating the classics won him a certain amount of acclaim, and he became known as the Daigaku school and Akamon school, making his presence known in the poetry world of the time. In 1892, he married Amae's younger sister Naga. After working as a middle school teacher in Shimane, he joined Hakubunkan. He published critiques and travel writings in every issue of Taiyo, Chugaku Sekai, and other magazines. His work "Kigiku Shiragiku" (Orange and White Chrysanthemum), published in 1906, is a collection of beautiful pseudo-classical writings. He was said to be "a generous man of generous nature, and his only indulgence was in drinking," and although he made many drunken mistakes, his travel writings about his visits to various places were widely read. His collected works include the "Keitsuki Zenshu" (Complete Works of Keigetsu), a total of 13 volumes. <References> Fukui Kyuzo, "New History of Japanese Poetry"
