Ni Yuanlu - Gei Genro (English spelling)

Japanese: 倪元璐 - げいげんろ（英語表記）Ní Yuán lù

1593‐1644
A Chinese literary figure in the late Ming Dynasty. His pen name was Ruyu, and his pen names were Hongbao and Yuanke. He was from Shangyu, Zhejiang Province. He was a Jinshi in the second year of the Tianqi era (1622), and was appointed Minister of Household and Rites, and later became a scholar at the Hanlin Academy. He was a martyr who died by hanging during the Li Zicheng Rebellion, and died for the Ming Dynasty. His posthumous name was Wenzheng, and in the Qing Dynasty he was changed to Wenzheng. He excelled in poetry, prose, calligraphy, and painting, and his continuous running and cursive calligraphy in particular was known for its sharp spirit and elegant style, and was praised for its divine beauty. He was also skilled in landscape, bamboo, and stone painting. His works include The Collection of Ni Wenzheng. [Minato Nobuyuki]

中国，明末の文人。字は汝玉。号は鴻宝，園客。浙江省上虞の人。天啓2年(1622)の進士で官は戸･礼両部の尚書，翰林院学士に至った。李自成の乱のときにみずから縊死し明朝に殉じた烈士である。諡（おくりな）は文正，清朝になり文貞とされた。詩文･書画にすぐれ，特に連綿とした行草の書は気骨の鋭さと風韻の高さをもって知られ，霊秀神妙と評された。また山水竹石画を得意とした。著に《倪文貞集》等がある。【湊信幸】
