A general term for acids that do not contain oxygen. A term used in contrast to oxoacids. Examples include binary acids such as hydrochloric acid (HCl), hydrofluoric acid ( HF ), hydrobromic acid (HBr), hydroiodic acid (HI), hydrosulfuric acid ( H2S ), hydrocyanic acid (HCN), and hydroazoic acid (HN3), as well as halogenoacids such as tetrachloroauric acid ( HAuCl4 ), hexachloroplatinic acid (H2PtCl6) , and tetrafluoroboric acid (HBF4 ) .
