International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities

...In order to study changes in a country's industrial structure and to compare and contrast industrial structures internationally, an industrial classification based on a set of standards is necessary. Today, each country in the world creates an industrial classification that is more or less uniform within its borders, and in 1947, after World War II, the United Nations Statistical Commission published a recommendation for the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities with the aim of standardizing this classification internationally as well. The first industrial classification was created in Japan in 1930, during the third national census.
