Eberhard I

Japanese: Eberhard I(英語表記)EberhardI
Eberhard I

[history]
During the High Middle Ages, up until the time of the Staufen dynasty, Württemberg belonged to the Duchy of Swabia, but during that time, a noble family that originated near Stuttgart and ruled the areas along the Neckar and Remus rivers proclaimed themselves Counts of Württemberg in 1135, and during the Interregnum (1254-73) after the death of the Staufen dynasty, they seized the imperial estates and expanded their sphere of control to all of Swabia. In the 15th century, the County of Württemberg was temporarily divided into two counties, with Stuttgart and Urach as their respective capitals, but Eberhard I (reigned 1450-96), founder of the University of Tübingen, restored unity in 1482, and in 1495 the emperor granted him the title of Duke of Württemberg. However, the restoration of the country's unity required the cooperation of the Landtag, and the power of the Landtag increased after the death of Eberhard I. It gained a strong political voice in the Treaty of Tübingen in 1514, and the strong power of the Landtag remained a distinctive feature of Württemberg until the 19th century.
