[Western]

[Concept of modern architecture]
In the West, the term "Modern Architecture" is used to refer to all architecture produced in modern industrial society. The term "Modern Movement" is generally used to refer to architecture from the late 19th century to the early 20th century, which broke away from past styles (historical styles) and produced architecture using new building materials such as iron and glass, while the terms "International Style" or "International Modern" are often used to refer to architecture from the 1920s and 1930s, when new forms unrelated to past styles were established. It is said that the word "modern" was first used in the context of an architectural movement in 1860, in the phrase "Modernism" at a meeting of the Architectural Association in London, and the consciousness of breaking away from the past in style has remained a fundamental characteristic of modern architecture.

From [International Style Architecture]

…the name of an architectural style most often used to refer to the trend in modern architecture from the 1920s to the 1950s. It is also called the international style. It is said to have originated from the title of a book written by Henry-Russell Hitchcock and PC Johnson, who were in charge of planning the Modern Architecture Exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1932.
