He is the protagonist of a giant legend told mainly in southern Kyushu. Throughout the country, there are many legends about a giant called Daidarabocchi who created mountains, mounds, lakes and swamps in various places. It is known that a doll of Otona Yagoro appears at the festival of Iwakawa Hachiman Shrine in Osumi Town, Kagoshima Prefecture. Legend has it that the Yagoro doll is the chief of the Hayato tribe who was destroyed by Yamato Takeru. This case is linked to Hachiman faith, but there are also other cases where Yagoro dolls that are linked to Gozu Tenno, who expels bad illnesses, and that ward off evil spirits, are sent to the village border and burned. Dolls are often used as substitutes to capture and expel evil beings, and Otona Yagoro in the giant legend possessed great powers, so common people expected that power to be utilized.
