[Faith in Mt. Tsurugi]
Mount Tsurugi was originally called Ishidateyama, but it is said that it came to be called Tsurugi-san after Emperor Antoku's sword was dedicated under a huge rock called Hozo-seki at the summit. Mount Tsurugi is said to have been founded by En no Gyoja in the 7th century, and has long been considered a sacred mountain for Shugendo. Until recently, women were not allowed to enter the mountain, and even today it is a mountain of faith where many believers climb it under the guidance of their guides.

　剣山はもとは石立（いしだて）山とよばれていたが，頂上にある宝蔵石という巨石の下に安徳天皇の剣を奉納して以来〈つるぎさん〉とよぶようになったという。剣山は7世紀に役行者（えんのぎようじや）が開いたと伝えられるように，古くから修験道の霊山とされ，近年まで女人禁制が守られ，現在も先達に導かれた多くの信者が登拝する信仰の山となっている。…
