Legs (animals) - kyaku

…A protruding structure that supports and moves the body is generally called an ashi (leg), and the characters ashi (foot), ashi (leg), and ashi (limbs) are used, but the distinction is conventional. There are many animals that can move without special parts that can be called feet (such as jellyfish, which move like an umbrella, and earthworms, which move like a peristalsis), and many structures that are similar to feet are not called feet because of their different shapes and functions (such as the appendages of arthropods).
