Housing Statistics

Japanese: 住宅統計 - じゅうたくとうけい

This refers to statistics related to housing. The most basic housing statistic in Japan is the Housing Survey (conducted by the Statistics Bureau of the Management and Coordination Agency every five years since 1948), which grasps the state of the housing stock. There are many samples, and the survey items include the construction method, structure, construction date, ownership, size of living rooms, hours of sunshine, household composition, age of head of household, number of people, income, occupation, residential movement, rent for rented housing, vacant houses, living standards, etc. While the Housing Survey targets "houses," the Population Census (conducted by the Statistics Bureau of the Management and Coordination Agency every five years) is a complete survey of "households," and survey items include type of dwelling, number of rooms, number of tatami mats, type of household, number of people in the household, etc.

住宅に関する統計をいう。日本における最も基本的な住宅統計は住宅統計調査(総務庁統計局，1948年から5年おきに実施)で，住宅ストックの状況を把握している。サンプル数は多く，調査項目は住宅の建て方･構造･建築時期･所有関係･居住室の広さ･日照時間，世帯構成･世帯主年齢･人員･収入･職業，住居移動，借家の家賃，空家，居住水準などである。住宅統計調査が〈住宅〉を対象にしているのに対し，国勢調査(総務庁統計局，5年おき)は〈世帯〉を対象にした全数調査で，住居の種類･室数･畳数，世帯の種類･世帯人員などが調査項目に含まれている。
