As evidence, Freud cited the fact that infants exhibit sucking behavior even when full, that they eventually become absorbed in thumb sucking, and that the lips and oral cavity play a major role in adult sexual life. Freud also described this stage as "cannibalistic" because it is a time when the object is taken into the body, and this incorporation is the prototype of identification as a psychological mechanism in humans. Furthermore, K. Abraham extracted the "oral sadistic stage" that corresponds to the later development of teeth within the oral stage.
