〘Noun〙① A lower-ranking priest or yoriudo who serves a shrine. They are placed under the priest, negi, hafuri, and other shrine officials, and are responsible for miscellaneous tasks during religious ceremonies and guarding the front of the shrine throughout the year. They have had a connection with the shrine since ancient times, and during festivals, certain positions are often hereditary as privileges. In the Middle Ages, they often used force to cause trouble and commit acts of violence. Jinnin.
