This butterfly belongs to the family Lycaenidae in the order Lepidoptera of the class Insecta. In Japan, it is found locally in Iwate, Yamagata, and Niigata prefectures. Outside of Japan, it is found in the Korean Peninsula and the Ussuri River basin. The wingspan is about 32 mm. The base color of the wings is orange. It was discovered that this species is found in Japan relatively recently, in the 1950s, and before that it was known as a Korean species, hence the Japanese name. It occurs once a year, with the peak season being from late June to early July in the Iwate prefecture habitat, and mid to late June in Oguni Town in southern Yamagata prefecture. Adults are active mainly around 3 pm. The larvae feed on the fraxinus and the fraxinus quinquefoil of the Oleaceae family. Eggs are laid in clusters on the trunks of these trees, overwinter, and hatch the following spring when the trees bud.

昆虫綱鱗翅(りんし)目シジミチョウ科に属するチョウ。日本では岩手、山形、新潟の各県に局部的に産する。国外では朝鮮半島、ウスリー川流域に産する。はねの開張32ミリメートル内外。はねの地色は橙(だいだい)色。本種が日本に産することが判明したのは比較的新しく昭和20年代のことで、それ以前は朝鮮産として知られていたのでこの和名がある。年1回の発生、岩手県下の産地ではその最盛期は6月下旬から7月上旬、山形県南部の小国(おぐに)町では6月中旬から下旬。成虫は午後3時ごろを中心に活動する。幼虫の食草はモクセイ科のトネリコ、コバノトネリコ。卵はこれらの樹幹上に数個かためて産み付けられ、越冬して、翌春、木の芽立ちと同時に孵化(ふか)する。
