[Spring Nicola Day]
During the imperial era, peasants placed more importance on days of the week than on months and dates, and dates were often named after saints, such as "Spring Nikola's Day" (May 9th on the Russian calendar) or "Yuri's Day" (November 26th on the Russian calendar). Orthodox Christians also had the custom of celebrating the anniversary of the death of a saint with the same name as themselves as a "name day," which they called "name-day celebration (imeniny)."

The Russian government adopted the metric system for weights and measures in 1918 after the Russian Revolution, but before that it used the units shown in the table.

　帝政期の農民たちは月日よりも曜日を重んじ，日付のほうはたとえば〈春のニコラの日〉(ロシア暦5月9日)，〈ユーリーの日〉(同11月26日)などのように聖者の名にちなんで呼ぶことが多かった。また正教徒は誕生日の代りに自分と同名の聖者の命日を〈名の日〉として祝う習慣があり，これを〈名の日の祝imeniny〉と呼んでいる。
