Sultan Galiev

A Volga Tatar national communist. After the February Revolution in Russia, he joined the Kazan Muslim Socialist Committee in July 1917, and in November of the same year joined the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party (Bolsheviks). He was selected by Stalin to hold important positions such as Chairman of the Central Muslim Military Council, Councillor of the National People's Commissariat, Editor in Chief of the newspaper National Life, and Central Executive Committee member of the Republic of Tatarstan. He was the first socialist to focus on the uniqueness of the "Third World" by emphasizing the special character of socialism in the Islamic East and revising the classical Marxist theory of class struggle and proletarian dictatorship.

ボルガ･タタール出身の民族共産主義者。ロシアの二月革命後，1917年7月にカザン･ムスリム社会主義者委員会に加入し，同年11月，ロシア社会民主労働党(ボリシェビキ)に入党した。スターリンに抜擢されて，中央ムスリム軍事参与会議長，民族人民委員部参与会員，《民族生活》紙編集長，タタールスタン共和国中央執行委員などの要職を歴任した。彼はイスラム東方世界における社会主義の特殊な性格を強調し，階級闘争とプロレタリア独裁に関するマルクス主義の古典理論を修正することにより，〈第三世界〉の独自性に着目した最初の社会主義者である。
