A typhoon that caused wind and flood damage in the Kanto, Koshin and Tohoku regions from September 15 to 17, 1948. It moved northeast off the coast of Tokaido while maintaining its strength, brushing the southern tip of the Izu Peninsula and making landfall on the Boso Peninsula at around midnight on the 17th, then moved from Kashima Nada to the coast of Sanriku. Strong winds were felt near the center of the typhoon, and frontal activity in front of the typhoon became active, causing the Kitakami River and its tributaries to overflow in the Tohoku region, resulting in over 700 deaths and missing. Damage was particularly severe in the mountain tsunami in Ichinoseki and floods in Miyako, with 838 deaths and missing nationwide. The name Ione comes from the fact that after World War II, the Allied Meteorological Corps gave female names with the initials ABC... to typhoons in the order in which they occurred.
