Lake Shoji

Japanese: 精進湖 - しょうじこ

Located in Fujikawaguchiko-machi, Minamitsuru-gun, southern Yamanashi Prefecture, this is one of the Fuji Five Lakes. The lake surface is 900 meters above sea level. Its area of 0.50 square kilometers makes it the smallest of the five lakes. Its maximum depth is about 15 meters. It is an almost neutral oligotrophic lake, but has more fish (such as crucian carp, carp, and smelt) than Lake Sai and Lake Motosu. It is accessible by national highways 139 and 358, and has a panoramic observation deck and a wind hole. In 2013, the Fuji Five Lakes, including Lake Shojiko, were registered on the World Heritage List as "Mt. Fuji - a place of worship and a source of artistic inspiration" along with the Mt. Fuji region, surrounding shrines, Oshino Hakkai, and other constituent assets. It is a 40-minute bus ride from Fujikyuko Kawaguchiko Station.

Lake Shoji
The smallest of the Fuji Five Lakes. The area was introduced to the world as a summer resort by the British early on, and has come to be known as the "Switzerland of the East." 山梨県南部、南都留(みなみつる)郡富士河口湖町(ふじかわぐちこまち)に位置する富士五湖の一つ。湖面標高900メートル。面積0.50平方キロメートルで五湖中最小。最大深度約15メートル。ほぼ中性の貧栄養湖であるが、西(さい)湖、本栖(もとす)湖に比較すると魚族（ヘラブナ、コイ、ワカサギなど）も多い。国道139号、358号の便があり、パノラマ台の展望台、風穴などもある。2013年（平成25）に精進湖を含め富士五湖は、富士山域や周辺の神社、忍野八海(おしのはっかい)等の構成資産とともに「富士山―信仰の対象と芸術の源泉」として世界文化遺産リストに登録された。富士急行河口湖駅からバス40分。
