Panca‐Sila (English spelling)

Panca‐Sila (English spelling)
The five founding principles of the Republic of Indonesia are stated in the preamble of the Constitution enacted and put into effect on August 18, 1945. They clarify that Indonesia is a secular state, not an Islamic state. The five principles are belief in the Supreme God, humanism, Indonesian unity, democracy, and social justice, with belief in the Supreme God being considered a positive expression of religious freedom. The so-called "national polity debate" is still raging today over the formation and understanding of Panca Sila.
