(1) Chemically, it is a term that describes the property of an acid, which reacts with metals that are more electropositive than hydrogen to generate hydrogen, and reacts with metal oxides to produce salt and water. In aqueous solutions, a pH of less than 7 is considered acidic [Nagakura et al.: 1998]. (2) It describes rocks with a high SiO2 content, and generally refers to rocks with SiO2 of 66% or more by weight. In rock classification, rocks are classified as acidic, intermediate, basic, and ultrabasic [Abich: 1841, Beaumont: 1847]. This classification method of dividing igneous rocks into those with SiO2 of 66%, 52%, and 45% by weight was proposed by Levinson-Lessing in 1897, and is still widely used today for its convenience [Katayama et al.: 1970]. However, it has nothing to do with the hydrogen ion concentration in solutions used in chemistry. Persilicic has the same meaning. Source: Asakura Publishing Dictionary of Petrology Information |
