...The life span in captivity is about 5 years. There are about 30 species of closely related species, including the water tenrec Limnogale mergulus (English name: web-footed tenrec), which is adapted to aquatic life, and the hedgehog tenrec Setifer setosus (English name: greater hedgehog-tenrec), whose whole body is covered with needle-like hairs, all of which are found in Madagascar. In recent years, the African family Potamogalidae (2 genera, 3 species) has sometimes been included in the Tenrecidae family.
