Ono Basin

Japanese:
Ono Basin

A basin in the upper reaches of the Kuzuryu River in northeastern Fukui Prefecture. The narrow definition of the Ono Basin is usually added to the narrow definition of the Ono Basin south of Shimoarai (Katsuyama City), where the Mana River, Kiyotaki River, and Akane River join, and the somewhat wider Kuzuryu River valley (Katsuyama Basin) that continues to the north. It is thought to be a fault basin between the Ryohaku Mountains and the Echizen Chuo Mountains, but the east is widely covered with volcanic ejecta, and nothing is clear except for the Hokyoji Fault Cliff in the south. The basin is filled with sand and gravel carried by rivers, except for the Tsukahara Plateau in the southeast (the tip of the Kyogatake volcanic mudflow), and is now dry rice paddies, tobacco leaf, and taro fields, with only the Akane River basin in the west being wet rice fields. Heisenji and Ushigahara were established in ancient times, while Tsukahara and Kinomotogahara were developed after the Second World War. The western part of Ono City and Katsuyama City are the center of the north and south.
