Jaguarundi (English spelling)

Japanese: ヤガランデ（英語表記）jaguarundi

A mammal of the Felidae family in the carnivorous order (illustration). A wildcat whose appearance and habits resemble those of a large weasel. Also called the jaguarundi. It is found in areas ranging from the southern parts of Arizona and Texas in North America to northern Argentina in South America. Its body length is 55-77 cm, tail length 33-60 cm, and weight 4.5-9 kg. Its body is slender, its limbs are short, and its tail is relatively long. Its head is small and flat, and its ears are small and round. It has two body colors: a rusty red type and a gray type. It lives in grasslands, forest fringes, and thick brush, and prefers waterside areas.

食肉目ネコ科の哺乳類（イラスト）。姿や習性が大型のイタチ類に似たヤマネコ。ジャガランディともいう。北アメリカのアリゾナとテキサスの南部から南アメリカのアルゼンチン北部にかけ分布する。体長55～77cm，尾長33～60cm，体重4.5～9kg。体は細長く，四肢が短く，尾が比較的長い。頭は小さく扁平で，耳は小さく丸い。体色には2色相があり，さび色を帯びた赤色型と灰色型である。草原，森林の周縁部，茂みの深いやぶ地などにすみ，水辺を好む。
