Weaving Song - Hataoriuta

Japanese:
Weaving Song - Hataoriuta
A folk song, a labor song sung while weaving. In the old days, women would weave at home on an izaribata (jibata) loom, where they would sit on the ground and move the shuttle for threading the weft from side to side, making a chankara-chankara sound. Weaving songs were mainly sung as work songs at that time. As the weaving song from Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, in the Riyoshu, says, "When I look at the person weaving on the loom, his hands are empty and the weaving is wrong. The woman next to me is standing there looking at me. She looks at me and laughs. I wish the woman who is laughing was gone. I can't see her shadow on the road any more.", it was originally a long, slow song.
