Japanese: 大野弁吉 - おおのべんきち

1801-1870 A scientist, engineer and puppet master from the late Edo period.
Born in 1812. Studied medicine, physics, and chemistry from the Dutch in Nagasaki, and later lived in Onomura, Kaga (Ishikawa Prefecture). Recognized by the wealthy merchant Zeniya Gobei, he was active in many fields. His works include mechanical dolls, cameras, telescopes, and fire starters. He died in 1870, at the age of 70. Born in Kyoto. His given name was Kaoru, and he was commonly known as Nakamuraya Benkichi. His pen names were Kakujuken and Itto. His work includes "Itto Shikyouroku."

享和元年生まれ。長崎で医術,理化学などをオランダ人からまなび,のち加賀(石川県)大野村にすむ。豪商銭屋五兵衛にみとめられ,多方面で活躍。からくり人形や写真機,望遠鏡,発火器などの作品がのこされている。明治3年死去。70歳。京都出身。名は薫。通称は中村屋弁吉。号は鶴寿軒,一東(いっとう)。著作に「一東視窮録」。
