Huygens, Constantijn (English spelling) HuygensConstantijn

...The Netherlands, which achieved independence by resisting the tyranny of Spain that began in the mid-16th century, entered the so-called "Golden Age" as the most advanced country in Europe in the 17th century, and academic and literary fields flourished at once, producing great poets and playwrights. These include Hooft, who wrote the pastoral drama "Franidas" (1605) and the record of the War of Independence "History of Holland" (1642-54), Brederoo, who wrote the comedy "The Spanish Brabants" (1617), Constantijn Huygens (1596-1687), who wrote the lyric poem "The Woods of the Hague" (1621), and Vondel, who wrote the verse dramas "Lucifer" (1654) and "Adam Expelled" (1664). It is also worth noting that the official Dutch translation of the Bible (1637) had a special influence on the formation of the standard written language.
