Memorial service for Zen Master Eisai

...In the Honganji and Takada sects, a memorial service called Hoonko is held on January 9-16 (based on the solar calendar). In addition, there are memorial services for Eisai Zenji, founder of the Rinzai sect (July 5), Dogen, founder of the Soto sect (August 28), Oeshiki, the ceremony for Nichiren, founder of the Nichiren sect (October 12-13), Ippen, founder of the Ji sect (August 22), Kakuban, founder of the Shingon sect (December 12), and Roben, founder of the Kegon sect (November 15).
