A strong westerly wind that blows in the polar frontal zone that occurs in the mid-latitude zone between 30 and 50 degrees latitude. It strengthens in winter and weakens in summer. It meanders greatly from north to south and fluctuates greatly, splitting and disappearing along the way. 緯度30～50度の中緯度帯にできる寒帯前線帯で吹く強い西風。冬に強まり、夏は弱まる。南北に大きく蛇行し、途中で分裂・消失するなど、変動が大きい。日本や北米大陸の上空では、亜熱帯ジェット気流と合流することがある。寒帯ジェット気流。
