A character who appears in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki. He is said to be the eighth emperor, the son of Emperor Kōgen and Haniyasuhime. In the Kojiki, he is written as Takehaniyasuhiko no Mikoto and Takehaniyasu no O. On the orders of Emperor Sujin, Ohiko went to Takashido (Echigo Province) and heard a poem composed by a mysterious girl that hinted at a plot to assassinate the emperor. He hurried back and told the emperor about it. The emperor said that his half-brother Takehaniyasu in Yamashiro Province was plotting a rebellion, and ordered Ohiko and Hikokunibuku no Mikoto, ancestor of Maruni no Omi, to defeat him. The Kojiki tells us that during the battle, Takehaniyasu's arrows missed anyone, but Hikokunibuku's arrow hit Takehaniyasu. The Nihon Shoki states that Takehaniyasu and his wife, Agatahime, raised armies and attempted to attack the capital from Yamashiro and Osaka, respectively, but both were defeated and killed by the government forces. This is likely an artificial device to emphasize that the rebellion ended in a complete failure.
