A small basin in the southeastern part of Yamanashi Prefecture, at the northeastern foot of Mt. Fuji. It belongs to Oshino Village. It was once a dammed lake created by lava flowing from Mt. Fuji, and was connected to Lake Yamanaka to the south, but it was drained into the Katsura River and became a fossil lake. There are a group of springs called Oshino Hakkai (a nationally designated natural monument and cultural heritage of the World Heritage Site), including Okamaike Pond and Kagamiike Pond. It was developed into rice paddy area early on, which is rare in the northern foot of Mt. Fuji.
