Confucianism - Kokyo

Also known as Confuciusism. A term used in the movement to make the worship of Confucius the state religion in China from the end of the Qing Dynasty to the beginning of the Republic. A debate was held between the proponents of this movement, such as Kang Youwei and Chen Huanzhang, and young intellectuals such as Chen Duxiu. 〈孔子教〉とも。清末から民国初の中国で，孔子尊崇の国教化を図ろうとする運動において用いられた語。康有為，陳煥章らの推進派と陳独秀らの若手知識人とのあいだに論戦が交わされた。孔子批判は1973年以降の批林批孔運動まで続く。→儒教
