A town in Kamihei County in eastern Iwate Prefecture. It faces Funakoshi Bay and Otsuchi Bay to the east, and the Yamada Line runs through it. Nori and oyster farming is thriving, and Nanbu Hanamagari salmon is a specialty of the Otsuchi River and Kozuchi River. There is an artificial salmon and trout hatchery. The coast is part of Sanriku Fukko National Park. The town suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 200.42 km2 . 15,276 people (2010). 岩手県東部，上閉伊(かみへい)郡の町。東は船越湾，大槌湾に臨み，山田線が通じる。ノリ・カキの養殖が盛んで，大槌川，小槌川で南部鼻曲りサケを特産。サケ・マス人工孵化(ふか)場がある。海岸は三陸復興国立公園に属する。東日本大震災で，町内において被害が発生。200.42km2。１万5276人（2010）。
