A town in Kamihei County in eastern Iwate Prefecture. It faces Funakoshi Bay and Otsuchi Bay to the east, and the Yamada Line runs through it. Nori and oyster farming is thriving, and Nanbu Hanamagari salmon is a specialty of the Otsuchi River and Kozuchi River. There is an artificial salmon and trout hatchery. The coast is part of Sanriku Fukko National Park. The town suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 200.42 km2 . 15,276 people (2010).
