Large drum - Otsuzumi

Japanese:
Large drum - Otsuzumi
A type of Japanese musical instrument. Percussion instrument. A large version of the drum. Also called "Okawa". The length of the body is about 28 cm, the diameter at both ends is about 12 cm, and the diameter of the leather surface is about 23 cm. The outer leather and inner leather are made of horsehide sewn onto iron rings at both ends of the body, and the six holes are tightened by alternately passing the vertical thread through them, and then the small thread is tightened tightly, after which the body rope is attached decoratively. Before playing, the outer leather and inner leather are roasted over a charcoal fire for about 30 minutes to dry and taut the leather. The o-tsuzumi is held on the left knee, and the three long fingers of the right hand, which are attached with finger leather and ate leather, are used to strike three different sounds, "kashira (head)," "kan (top)," and "otsu (bottom)." In the case of large pieces such as the Matsubamemono "Kanjincho" in the entrance music of Noh and Kabuki, it can be played while sitting on a floor stool, but otherwise it is played while sitting upright. There are many schools of Noh, such as the Kadono, Takayasu, Okura, Ishii, and Kanze schools, and although the scores are different, there is not much difference in the playing style. There are no schools of Kabuki and Nagauta that specialize in taiko, but taiko players come from schools such as Tanaka, Mochizuki, Tateda, and Tosha.
