...Japanese paper is placed between the wooden dentures and the gums to ensure stability and shock absorption. Pierre Fauchard (1678-1761) of France, who established dentistry as an independent branch of medicine, made the first complete dentures for an elderly woman in 1735, so if Yagyu Munefuyu, who died in 1675, used complete dentures, it would seem that Japanese dental treatment techniques, including dentures, were comparable to those of other countries.
