Hemolytic anemiaThe lifespan of red blood cells is about 120 days, but this anemia occurs when some cause shortens the lifespan and causes premature breakdown. It can be normocytic or macrocytic. There are many causes, including hereditary anemia caused by abnormalities in the cell membrane, enzymes, or hemoglobin of red blood cells, acquired autoimmune hemolytic anemia caused by the production of antibodies against one's own red blood cells, and hemolytic disease of the newborn caused by pregnancy with Rh incompatibility.
