? ‐135 Military leader in the Second Jewish War (132-135) against Roman rule. His real name was Ben Koseba. Bar Kokhova (son of the star) was the nickname given to the rebel leader, who was supported by Rabbi Akiva, by the people who recognized him as the Messiah (see Numbers 24:17). However, when disappointed by his defeat and death, the people called him Bar Koziba (son of lies). Coins minted by the Jews during the revolt bear the inscription "Simeon, prince of Israel."
