Hargobind

...The era of Emperor Akbar, who pursued a policy of appeasement, was relatively peaceful, but after Akbar's death, under Emperor Jahangir, the Mughal Empire was caught up in a power struggle within the empire, and Guru Arjun was arrested, tortured, and eventually took his own life. The sixth guru, Hargobind (reigned 1606-45), carried out many reforms in response to Guru Arjun's last command that the Sikh community should create an army. First, at the coronation ceremony when he became a guru, he wore the robes and sword of a king instead of that of an ascetic, honed his martial arts skills, organized a personal guard, and replaced the traditional donations from followers with horses and weapons as the focus.
