Oi Dam

This is a power generating dam located on the Kiso River in the Kiso River system in Oi-cho, Ena City, Gifu Prefecture. It is a gravity concrete dam completed in 1924, with a total water storage capacity of 29,400,000 cubic meters. The attached Oi Power Station was Japan's first dam-type power station. It is also known as a dam designed by Fukuzawa Yukichi's adopted son, Fukuzawa Momosuke, and has been selected as a modern civil engineering heritage site by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers, as well as certified as a modern industrial heritage site by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The artificial lake created by the construction of the dam was named Ena Gorge by geographer Shiga Shigetaka.

岐阜県恵那市大井町の木曽川水系木曽川に位置する発電用のダム。1924年竣工の重力式コンクリートダムで、総貯水量は29,400,000立方メートル。付属の大井発電所は、日本初のダム式発電所。福沢諭吉の養子、福沢桃介が手がけたダムとしても知られ、土木学会により近代土木遺産に選定されているほか、経済産業省の近代化産業遺産にも認定されている。ダム建設により誕生した人造湖は、地理学者の志賀重昂によって恵那峡と命名された。
