Lao Gàn (English spelling)

Japanese: 労榦 - ろうかん（英語表記）Láo Gàn

A contemporary Chinese historian, his courtesy name was Zhenyi and he was born in Changsha, Hunan Province. He majored in Han history at Peking University and became a researcher at the Institute of History and Philology at Academia Sinica in 1932, where he worked on sorting and studying the recently discovered 10,000-plus Juyan Han bamboo slips. In 1943 he published Commentaries on the Juyan Han bamboo slips, a compilation of complete commentaries and historical investigations, and in 1957 he published a collection of illustrations, during which he published many papers and set the stage for research into the Juyan Han bamboo slips. He has also conducted many other studies on ancient history, and one of his works is a collection of Laoxi Academic Papers, Vol. Jia (1976).

中国現代の歴史学者。字は貞一。湖南省長沙の出身。北京大学で漢代史を専攻，1932年に中央研究院歴史語言研究所研究員となり，発見されたばかりの居延漢簡1万余点の整理と研究に取り組む。43年に全釈文と考証をまとめた《居延漢簡考釈》を出版，57年には図版冊を公刊し，その間多数の論文を発表して居延漢簡の研究に先鞭をつけた。そのほか古代史に関する研究も多く，著作集として《労榦学術論文集甲編》(1976)がある。
