Habitual residence is the place where a person is recognized as actually residing normally in social life, and is also called habitual residence or "ordinary residence." In Japan, it was first introduced in 1964 when the Convention on the Conflict of Laws Relating to the Forms of Wills (1961, The Hague) was ratified and the Law on the Applicable Laws of the Forms of Wills was enacted (Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the said law).
