A method of decorative glass processing, and the products that result from this process. In Japan, it is called kiriko or cut glass. The method involves pressing a rotating grindstone made of stone or metal with an abrasive against the surface of the glass to cut grooves or carve curved surfaces, and is often used to decorate transparent lead glass vessels. Due to the nature of the technique, it is impossible to cut curved lines, and the designs are based on geometric patterns made up of an accumulation of straight lines. The cut surface and the cross-section of the linear grooves change depending on the diameter of the grindstone and the shape of the cross-section.
