The title of the regent's mother. The wife of an aristocrat is called Kita no Kata, the mother is called Dai Kita no Kata, and the wife of a regent is called Kita no Mandokoro, whereas his mother was called Dai Kita no Mandokoro. Dai Mandokoro is an abbreviation of Dai Kita no Mandokoro. In the narrow sense, it refers to Naka (1513-92), the birth mother of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the regent and grand minister of state. It is a reference to the fact that his wife, Oe, was called Kita no Mandokoro, and in "Hideyoshi's Ninkanki" it is written, "After that, he appointed an imperial envoy to Osaka, appointed Kita no Mandokoro to the Midai, and his mother to the Dai Mandokoro."
