...Morales's sacred choral music, while well absorbing the advanced polyphonic techniques brought from Flanders during the reign of Charles I, also shows a richness of emotional expression that can be said to be a tradition in Iberia. This tendency was continued by Francisco Guerrero (1528-99), a disciple of Morales, and by the reign of Victoria de Tolos. Meanwhile, secular songs, which followed the tradition of the Royal Songs, also showed further development, and many collections with a unique national flavor were compiled, including the song collection by Juan Vázquez (c. 1500-60), a representative contemporary of the same period.
