...Chinese porcelain from the end of the Ming dynasty, such as Kosometsuke and Xiangzui, was mainly used in the world of tea ceremony, but the Arita kilns were also engaged in firing replicas of these porcelains for everyday use. It was around the beginning of the 1640s that Arita-Sarayama began to produce overglaze porcelain, learning from the red-glaze style of the end of the Ming dynasty. However, early overglaze porcelain products were more highly regarded overseas than in the domestic market. ...
